By Ibrahim Karim Bangura aka Tanko

The development of the Paralympics Committee of Sierra Leone to a higher level has been the prime focus of its members. Recently, the Committee welcomed wheelchair basketball introduced by Milton Dumbuya.

The game has already attracted many people living with disabilities. Speaking to NewsWatch sports, Milton Dumbuya said training has commenced at the Siaka Stevens Stadium Basketball Court, adding that the athletes have already acquired the skills of dribbling and shooting.

He said that he wanted to showcase the aptitude in disability, adding that athletes have demonstrated their commitment but with the wrong chairs. “It is now left with the government, international and local donors to support them to achieve their goal” he said.

One of the most popular Paralympians in Sierra Leone, George Wyndham, said he was inspired to play the game when he watched live wheelchair basketball in Brazil. He appealed strongly for support.

According to Unisa Deen Kargbo, President of the Paralympics Committee, they will not rest until they see the game through.
